Cynthia was super accommodating, giving me a room when my plans fell through on short notice one night. And she graciously let me stay in the lobby for a few hours after checkout before heading off to my next destination. A real lifesaver!
Cynthia made our trip so amazing! She made maps of the island with great places to eat and everywhere we had to visit! There were places we did not even know about! Her house had such good energy as well!! The price is beyond fair and you will feel so comfortable!! So so recommend!!!!!
OMG, The host was so nice, She provided transportation from Hilo airport to the Hotel, made breakfast and even gave me a ride to the rental car company the next day after arriving. The Home/AirBNB was very clean,with comfortable spacious bed. The location is very close to the mall,grocery stores, movie theater ect, walkable, the neighborhood is guite, well kept and friendly. I look forward to a return trip.
My absolute favorite place to stay at in Hilo! I had the most wonderful experience during my stay at the Shaka Shak. I was accommodated beyond belief. I honestly felt like I was staying with family. Cynthia made me feel comfortable and welcome. I was very happy at the many recommendations she had for local activities. I will definitely be staying here during my next visit to Hilo. Thank you so very much!!!!!
Accomodation: cute private house in a neighborhood that feels very local.. a very good thing. Located ~5 miles from Hilo airport. Has several food options nearby. Staff: super friendly owner and her daughter. She was very quick to give us tips on what to do, where to eat etc. Very nice & lively person. Price: one of the cheapest option we found in that area. Still we feel it is a little overpriced (cleaning fee etc.)
The place feels like home , the island lifestyle that a senior like me craves, its a Zen , lush garden and sounds of nature and birds are your background. My bed was very comfy, big spacious room Cynthia is very accommodating and very helpful with recommendations, I stayed for a week and I was rejuvenated, worth every penny spent, will recommend and will be back for sure.
Great place to stay! I was only looking for 2 nights however I liked it so much I extended to 4 nights. Host was really nice and the place was clean. Large kitchen with use of the fridge/freezer. Bedrooms are equipped with very nice fans. Backyard was nice to sit and relax under the bamboo and orange tree. I was traveling on my own but next time I will bring my gf and stay at the Shaka Shak. Mahalo!
Just stayed here for 12 nights. Cynthia the host is excellent. Comfortable bed with ensuite room. Based in a quiet suburb 10 minute drive from Hilo town centre. Walk in shower and separate toilet. Excellent value for money. View of Mauna Kea observatory from my room. Off road parking available. WiFi available. Fresh made coffee in the mornings. Local supermarkets and fast food restaurants nearby. Saturdays sees a farmers market just around the corner. I will definitely be back if I return to big island Hawaii.
